5.1. Methodological overview

The methodology followed in this course is oriented towards achievement of the learning objectives. It is based on the Project-Based Learning methodology where the student becomes an active subject in the learning process. It is a highly practical approach where the student will be able to take advantage of all the knowledge taught in lectures through assignments and case studies connected with the industrial reality.

5.2. Learning tasks

The course includes the following learning tasks:

  • Lectures (30 hours). Weekly sessions of two hours.
  • Assignments and case studies (90 hours). The preparation of coursework and teamwork through practical case studies is considered the main teaching activity of the course, where students will acquire most of their competences and learning outcomes. Teams will consist of a variable number of students between 3 and 8, and they will have a  regular supervision by an advisor. 10 hours will take place during teaching sessions.
  • Conferences and seminars (4 hours). Complement to the teaching sessions and to improve knowledge of students in the field of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, conferences will be scheduled with experienced professionals. 
  • Autonomous work study (25 hours). Estimated average time required for exam preparation.
  • Assessment (1 hour). The expected duration of the theoretical test is 1 hour, unless students choose the global assessment system, in that case the total duration of the test will be of 5 hours.

5.3. Syllabus

The course will address the following topics:

  • Topic 1. Introduction to logistics and supply chain management.
  • Topic 2. Supply chain coordination.
  • Topic 3. Design and optimization of the logistic network.
  • Topic 4. Analytical methodologies for inventory management.
  • Topic 5. Warehouse logistics.
  • Topic 6. Transportation and distribution.
  • Topic 7. Risk management in the supply chain.
  • Topic 8. Information systems for the logistic network.
